AP: Germany’s Ex-Spy Chief Is Arrested on Suspicion of Trading State Secrets and Treason

‘Prosecutors say Hanning used that material for private consulting, including an analysis intended for a foreign intelligence officer’

EXCERPT:

SOPKE: “Germany’s former foreign intelligence chief has been arrested on suspicion of espionage and treason. Federal prosecutors say August Hanning and a former aid made a deal in 2010 for the aid to supply intelligence in exchange for payment. They allege the aid passed on around 2,000 documents over the years, many containing classified information. Prosecutors say Hanning used that material for private consulting, including an analysis intended for a foreign intelligence officer. They haven’t named the country involved and say it’s unclear whether that analysis reached its intended recipient.”
