David Ignatius: ‘It’s Right for Trump to Insist’ on the Concrete Details in Iran Nuclear Negotiations

‘The president ... still oscillates between annihilate and negotiate’

EXCERPT:

IGNATIUS: “I’m not sure it’s wrong for Trump to say, you know, come back with something that’s more concrete. The interesting thing is that now, even without a settlement, increasing amounts of crude are going through the Strait of Hormuz with protection from the U.S. along the southern shore. Just heard figures over the weekend that it’s now a weekly average — a daily average through the week of something like 13 to 14 million barrels a day, almost the level that it was before the war started. So in that sense, over time, things are going in a better direction. And it’s right for Trump to insist that any settlement that really resolves this include details about the nuclear file that are not yet, from what I can see, in what Iran’s offering.”
