H.R. McMaster: ‘We’re Just Buying Time with the Chinese Communist Party and Trying to Make Ourselves More Resilient’
EXCERPT:
McMASTER: "Yeah, I think what he's hoping to achieve is some kind of a deal on trade and commerce, especially involving these heavy rare earths, and it turns out, Vlad, it’s really bad idea to give a hostile, authoritarian regime course of power over your economy. So, magnets and so forth, I mean, we have a lot of dependencies on China. And I think what Trump is doing is trying to separate a lot of the issues we have with China from the relationship, build a good relationship. And, Vlad, I think we’re just buying time with the Chinese Communist Party and trying to make ourselves more resilient so we can get back to kind of a more competitive approach to to China."
