Matthew Continetti on Iran: The Attacks Were More Severe, That Sends a Message That Iran Can’t Exercise a Veto Over the Strait of Hormuz

‘Right now, the battle is to open the strait, and I think we’re on the path to doing so’

EXCERPT:

CONTINETTI: “Well, I think the key decision here, John, was that the strikes in retaliation for the Iranian attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz were disproportionate. Prior to the most recent round of fighting, we had been engaged in what President Trump sometimes called love taps. Iranian shoot a cruise missile, we fire back, hit an empty radar installation. This time, as Trump said, it was 20 to 1. The attacks last night even more severe. And I think that sends a definite message that the Iranians cannot exercise a veto over the Strait of Hormuz. That’s the basic principle of international affairs. And right now, the battle is to open the Strait, and I think we’re on the path to doing so.”
