Richard Haass: The ‘Political Leadership Screwed Up’ Over the Iran Conflict
RUSH EXCERPT:
HAASS: “Almost everything the vice president said they’re criticizing the war against Iraq two plus decades ago can and will be used against this administration, quote unquote. The political leadership screwed up. Then guess what? The political leadership screwed up now, big time, as you say, articulating all these goals which were never met, thinking that the war was going to bring about regime change or capitulation, then signing an mou that gave Iran the store in many ways. And we’re seeing it, willy. It’s a question of how high the tolls will be. They won’t be called tolls, but there will be transit or user fees. And Iran will periodically close the straits or this or that country, the nuclear talks, the one thing we know they’re going to go on, not just for months, I think for years. Let’s be let’s be realistic about that. We also know the agreement won’t rein in Iranian support for groups like Hamas or Hezbollah won’t rein in their ballistic missile force. So what we’re seeing is essentially the future, these kind of loose, ongoing negotiations on nuclear, a messy situation with the strait, a lot of the other issues that led to October 7th, not not resolved."
