Rebeccah Heinrichs on Trump Declaring War and Restarting Iran Peace Talks: ‘Quintessentially Donald Trump’

‘The president conveying optimism‘

EXCERPT:

HEINRICHS: "This is quintessentially Donald Trump. This is how he does it. So, you can see the president really conveying optimism. He does this whenever he’s negotiating. He's — what we see publicly is actually part of the way he negotiates as he tries to get all of us to understand this is the momentum. At the same time, he has not moved a single ship, troop, warplane out of the region, so all of that pressure is there, it remains in the region, he has not moved out that out of the region, so you still have the possibility of a resumption of military operations. I would point out, too, that the Iranians, although we say that there's ceasefire in place, we have seen IRGC fire off a cruise missile on to navy ships, and so we’ve seen our air force and our navy take out some ships, especially as we began this Project Freedom, even though it has been back on pause. So the Iranians are still engaged in hostilities against the United States, even though President Trump continues to really push for this negotiated settlement."
