Juan Williams: Iran Is Willing to Take More Pain than They Think They Can Inflict on the Global Economy

‘The suggestion is the president is the one under pressure to try and get a deal done’

RUSH EXCERPT:
WILLIAMS: "Not at all. You know, it’s an interesting moment. Clearly, this is week eight, and, you know, there are questions about how long this has been going on, and the suggestion is the president is the one under pressure to try and get a deal done, bret. But the president in terms of what he says, views the pressure as being on the Iranians, and potentially on the Iranian oil being bottled up, and hurting their economy more. The response that seems to be coming, although it’s not articulated from the Iranians, is that they believe they have been through years of sanctions and other punishments and they are willing to take more pain than they think they can inflict on the global economy, the threats of global recession, gasoline prices up. You think about it, in the last two months, oil prices have gone up $30. So it’s — it’s like, you know, two heads butting. The question is who is willing to sustain more of this kind of economic — inconvenience or pain, however you want to put it."
