Mark Dubowitz: Iran Believes that ‘the Only Place They Can Beat Americans Is at the Negotiating Table’

DUBOWITZ: "I think the Guard Corps, the regime in general believes that the only place they can beat Americans is at the negotiating table because that’s where they beat Americans, that's where they beat the Obama administration. Secretary Kerry and Undersecretary Sherman negotiated a really flawed agreement in 2016. So I think they are expecting, when they show up to Islamabad, that they can beat another U.S. president. I think maybe they are learning a painful lesson that that may not be true. I think the other thing is they are playing good cop/bad cop on us, right, they're pretending they are these moderates who are prepared to make a deal while the IRGC, the hard-liners are not. But we have to be very careful not to fall into that Persian trap that they have repeatedly set for American negotiators, and I hope the president’s negotiating team does not fall for that trap once again."
