DHS Sec. Mullin: This Has Been Longest Shutdown in U.S. History and Our Adversaries Are Not Shut Down

EXCERPT:

MULLIN: “The reason why we are doing it that way, we’re gonna fund 20 of the 22 agencies that way is because we’re afraid if we actually force CBP, which is our Custom and Border Protection, and ICE on this bill, we’re afraid Democrats will just shut us down again September 30. So through reconciliation, we are going to be able to fund CBP and ICE for three years. And the optics of it, just for some Republicans that are in a primary, they’re afraid that a commercial will be run that they voted to defund those two agencies when really it is trying to keep the government from shutting down again September 30. And keep in mind, we have been shut down for the longest shutdown in the U.S. government history and our adversaries are not shut down, and we are tasked to protect the homeland. That’s like defunding the Department of War because we’re doing the same thing. The Department of War comes up to our shores, Department of Homeland, I take everything when it gets to our shores.”
