CNN: Matthew Chance Reports from Beirut, Navigating an Unpredictable Environment as Lebanon Is Dragged into the Iran War

‘This country has become extremely unpredictable and extremely volatile’

RUSH EXCERPT:
CHANCE: "We’ve just been told to get out because. We’re gonna go yeah. We’re only been in Beirut for about a week and already we’ve had to escape rapidly at least two separate situations that were potentially dangerous. At last night, we attended an anti Israel pro Hezbollah, a rally in the center of Beirut. It was pretty calm at first people, chanting anti Israeli anti. U s slogans and suddenly all the attention turned on us and we were told by the people that we had to leave and- and we were essentially chased away so that wasn’t good the day before we were invited by Hezbollah into an area of south Beirut which is controlled by them. It’s usually a sort of no go area where they said they guarantee our safety, but we were in there within a few minutes. There was a new alert from the Israelis that there was an airstrike coming, and so that was complete, panic and chaos we had to get. I it’s the place where Israel has been focusing. You can hear the gunshots outside that Israel has been focusing it’s activity. It’s intensive campaign of air strike eggs against the Hezbollah group, and so it all shows that during this Iran, war and the extent to which Lebanon is involved in it, the situation, this country has become extremely unpredictable and extremely volatile"
