Victoria Coates: Netanyahu ‘On Board’ with Plan That Would Return Hostages, Dismantle Hamas
EXCERPT:
COATES: "Certainly, the prime minister seemed to be very much on board with what President Trump and his administration are proposing. And it's important to see, there are three things this deal would do and one thing it wouldn’t. The three things are bring the hostages home immediately, within 72 hours, even before Yom Kippur. That would be amazing. The second is guarantee Israel security. The third is get rid of the Hamas. They can either disarm and decide to leave a better life, or they can leave. They can be given safe passage to other countries. And the one thing it doesn’t do is it does not make the establishment of a Palestinian state that was so shamefully recognized by some of our European and even North American allies at the United Nations this week. But it doesn’t make that creation of a Palestinian state a prerequisite to this deal going into place. So, those are the key points. And if Hamas accepts it, that means that some of the individuals who have been members of Hamas may survive. If they don’t, the president’s message was very clear: 'I will support Israel wiping you out.' That is their choice."
