DOOCY Right now let ░░░░░░░░ bring in the governor ░░░░░░░░ Kentucky Andy Beshear joins ░░░░░░░░ live Governor I would ░░░░░░░░ that your message to ░░░░░░░░ people of Kentucky and ░░░░░░░░ area is just stay ░░░░░░░░ today because it s ░░░░░░░░ to be a mess ░░░░░░░░ That s right We ░░░░░░░░ in the midst of ░░░░░░░░ very significant winter weather ░░░░░░░░ We ve had 6 ░░░░░░░░ 8 inches of snow ░░░░░░░░ by really at least ░░░░░░░░ an inch of ice ░░░░░░░░ most of Kentucky more ░░░░░░░░ was originally expected A ░░░░░░░░ an inch of ice ░░░░░░░░ bring down tree limbs ░░░░░░░░ bring down power lines ░░░░░░░░ ve got about 100 ░░░░░░░░ people without power right ░░░░░░░░ And even though some ░░░░░░░░ the roads may look ░░░░░░░░ when you look at ░░░░░░░░ because we have had ░░░░░░░░ transportation cabinet workers out ░░░░░░░░ to clear them that ░░░░░░░░ of ice means almost ░░░░░░░░ single road is icy ░░░░░░░░ need as much of ░░░░░░░░ roads as we can ░░░░░░░░ both to treat them ░░░░░░░░ for the utility folks ░░░░░░░░ it s going to ░░░░░░░░ dangerously cold starting tomorrow ░░░░░░░░ ve got wind gusts ░░░░░░░░ can make fixing the ░░░░░░░░ lines dangerous so we ░░░░░░░░ really got one day ░░░░░░░░ try to get power ░░░░░░░░ to as many Kentuckians ░░░░░░░░ possible before the wind ░░░░░░░░ gets down close to ░░░░░░░░ So we have got ░░░░░░░░ lot of work to ░░░░░░░░ But the good news ░░░░░░░░ we have no major ░░░░░░░░ thus far We haven ░░░░░░░░ had any reports that ░░░░░░░░ have lost anybody thus ░░░░░░░░ For a state that ░░░░░░░░ been through our worst ░░░░░░░░ and flooding and polar ░░░░░░░░ and some more tornadoes ░░░░░░░░ the last five years ░░░░░░░░ were ready for this ░░░░░░░░ thanks to your meteorologists ░░░░░░░░ a lot of others ░░░░░░░░ had a lot of ░░░░░░░░ time But still a ░░░░░░░░ of work to do ░░░░░░░░ the best thing people ░░░░░░░░ do is stay home ░░░░░░░░ safe Remember those folks ░░░░░░░░ treating the roads or ░░░░░░░░ utility lines those are ░░░░░░░░ too They leave their ░░░░░░░░ to protect ours to ░░░░░░░░ to get everything back ░░░░░░░░ and running and we ░░░░░░░░ look out for their ░░░░░░░░ too EARHARDT Governor I ░░░░░░░░ when something like this ░░░░░░░░ and you lose electricity ░░░░░░░░ it can go on ░░░░░░░░ a week or 10 ░░░░░░░░ and after a while ░░░░░░░░ can be very dangerous ░░░░░░░░ certain families and for ░░░░░░░░ elderly Are you getting ░░░░░░░░ from other states even ░░░░░░░░ 27 states right now ░░░░░░░░ feeling the effects of ░░░░░░░░ storm BESHEAR Well one ░░░░░░░░ we do well in ░░░░░░░░ country is we help ░░░░░░░░ other in difficult times ░░░░░░░░ we ve had utility ░░░░░░░░ from all over the ░░░░░░░░ pre staged in Kentucky ░░░░░░░░ eastern Kentucky where it ░░░░░░░░ be some of the ░░░░░░░░ to get it back ░░░░░░░░ the number of trees ░░░░░░░░ the terrain we have ░░░░░░░░ entire state park filled ░░░░░░░░ utility workers from other ░░░░░░░░ that are already going ░░░░░░░░ work You know my ░░░░░░░░ out there right now ░░░░░░░░ the wind gust can ░░░░░░░░ putting the buckets up ░░░░░░░░ and then if other ░░░░░░░░ are out on the ░░░░░░░░ just the concern that ░░░░░░░░ could slip or slide ░░░░░░░░ the danger that could ░░░░░░░░ to utility workers So ░░░░░░░░ there is something positive ░░░░░░░░ now about having 100 ░░░░░░░░ people without power is ░░░░░░░░ s pretty spread across ░░░░░░░░ state though some counties ░░░░░░░░ hit more than others ░░░░░░░░ that means is it ░░░░░░░░ multiple utilities which means ░░░░░░░░ we can have a ░░░░░░░░ significant response But in ░░░░░░░░ of our hard hit ░░░░░░░░ we have warming centers ░░░░░░░░ are open We are ░░░░░░░░ the word out to ░░░░░░░░ So those that lose ░░░░░░░░ that have medical devices ░░░░░░░░ need to run need ░░░░░░░░ be moving towards that ░░░░░░░░ center If you don ░░░░░░░░ have power up midday ░░░░░░░░ we are going to ░░░░░░░░ get 1 to 3 ░░░░░░░░ more of snow you ░░░░░░░░ to be looking at ░░░░░░░░ warming center So our ░░░░░░░░ is stay home unless ░░░░░░░░ don t have power ░░░░░░░░ then make sure that ░░░░░░░░ get our friends and ░░░░░░░░ to safe places Again ░░░░░░░░ I mentioned we have ░░░░░░░░ through a lot in ░░░░░░░░ We are tough resilient ░░░░░░░░ We also care about ░░░░░░░░ other So everybody look ░░░░░░░░ after your neighbor KILMEADE ░░░░░░░░ governor I was looking ░░░░░░░░ some of the stats ░░░░░░░░ say on the average ░░░░░░░░ winter Kentucky gets about ░░░░░░░░ inches of snow In ░░░░░░░░ that s called a ░░░░░░░░ but in Kentucky it ░░░░░░░░ kind of new So ░░░░░░░░ is a way to ░░░░░░░░ in the snow and ░░░░░░░░ ice Does that concern ░░░░░░░░ that you don t ░░░░░░░░ a lot of experience ░░░░░░░░ that BESHEAR Well certainly ░░░░░░░░ snow is one challenge ░░░░░░░░ a half an inch ░░░░░░░░ ice anywhere is going ░░░░░░░░ present really significant challenges ░░░░░░░░ really get to a ░░░░░░░░ of an inch that ░░░░░░░░ when you see the ░░░░░░░░ outages and the road ░░░░░░░░ Starting tomorrow morning it ░░░░░░░░ be so cold that ░░░░░░░░ salt isn t going ░░░░░░░░ work nearly as well ░░░░░░░░ challenge isn t that ░░░░░░░░ many people are out ░░░░░░░░ the roads because they ░░░░░░░░ heard the warnings and ░░░░░░░░ a good job of ░░░░░░░░ safe yesterday It s ░░░░░░░░ that are out on ░░░░░░░░ roads are moving a ░░░░░░░░ too fast That could ░░░░░░░░ folks coming through Kentucky ░░░░░░░░ we are such a ░░░░░░░░ hub right in the ░░░░░░░░ of the country we ░░░░░░░░ a lot of logistics ░░░░░░░░ freight that moves through ░░░░░░░░ and every day This ░░░░░░░░ if I have a ░░░░░░░░ it s that you ░░░░░░░░ see the road which ░░░░░░░░ false confidence In other ░░░░░░░░ we have gotten the ░░░░░░░░ off but we still ░░░░░░░░ a lot of ice ░░░░░░░░ black ice When you ░░░░░░░░ an icing event of ░░░░░░░░ degree you can t ░░░░░░░░ every inch of the ░░░░░░░░ So people need to ░░░░░░░░ when they re out ░░░░░░░░ that road is icy ░░░░░░░░ take their time.”
