Pentagon Spokesman: Not Worried about Iraq—More of a ‘Sustained Focus’ (National Review Online)

While the situation in Iraq appears to have worsened dramatically in recent days, the Obama administration wouldn’t go so far as to say the developments are worrying them. Appearing on CNN on Thursday morning, Pentagon press secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby played down the department’s level of concern about the events taking place in the volatile region.

“When you ask me what worries us, it’s not so much ‘worry’ as a sustained focus on this threat,” Kirby said, describing the situation in Iraq “as changing and growing in certain ways.”

“It’s not so much worry as it’s constant, steady focus by the Pentagon on this very real threat,” he reiterated.
