Jamie Kirchick: Trump’s at Best ‘Apathetic’ to the EU and NATO ‘If Not Openly Hostile’

KIRCHICK: "Well, it’s really unfortunate because if you look at the two main institutions of post-war Europe, it’s been European integration, the EU and NATO. These are two institutions that Donald Trump seems  at best apathetic, if not openly hostile to. And we've had every president from Harry Truman to Barack Obama, both parties, they've all supported European integration coming together more politically in NATO. And this is the president for the first time questioning Article 5, which is the mutual defense clause that say an attack on one member is an attack on all. The message that that sends to the Russians at a point like this is really not good."
