Jason Rantz: ‘The Optics of a Lot of What We Saw Was Damaging’ as Aggressive ICE Enforcement Backfired With Latino Voters

RANTZ: “There clearly was a lesson learned because over the course of the last few months, we haven‘t really seen much of anything. They were still doing deportations. They were still engaged in that. Markwayne Mullin came out this week saying deportations are still going to continue. It just hasn‘t been getting the same level of coverage because they‘ve shifted the way that they tackle these things. I think early on, they were trying to send a message not just to the base that, hey, we‘re doing what we said we were going to do. But the intent was also, frankly, to tell people, you should not come here illegally because we are going to engage in this kind of enforcement. It obviously backfired because I think the optics of a lot of what we saw was, was, you know, damaging.”
