Paul Rieckhoff: ‘The Blue Wave Is Powered by Independent Water’

RIECKHOFF: “They’re running the table. And I think it’s important to go back to that quote, because I want to pull two pieces of it out. They are authentic and they are independent minded. I would add. They’re populists and they’re off, and they’re channeling the grievance of lots of Americans. And this has been a blue wave, but it’s been powered by independent water. And that’s really, really important here because the fight is for the independent middle. It always has been. We’re 45% of the country. And what you saw in state after state is 60% plus in Ohio, in Texas, in all these places, South Carolina, 60 plus percent of independents went to Democrats. So Democrats are kind of surfing a wave of independents that have now come to their side. And they’re doing it in part because they want accountability.”
