Dana Perino: It’s Not Like the Dems Have ‘Some Grand Economic Plan,’ But the Republicans’ Messaging ‘Got Muddied and Swamped’

‘People aren’t thinking about what happened to their pocketbook four years ago’

EXCERPT:

PERINO: "Well, I think that it’s pretty clear that the messaging got muddied and it got swamped. And the Democrats -- it's not like the Democrats had some grand economic plan and policy that they were putting forward. Jim Messina, who worked for Barack Obama, was on a podcast the other day, he works on a lot of these races and he said, 'If there’s an economic message and a policy book that the Democrats have, I haven’t seen it.' So it’s not like the Democrats have that. But for months, maybe even a year, voters were telling pollsters the economy is the issue, affordability is the issue, and sometimes they were mocked for that. Because it is true. The markets are great, doing pretty good, the GDP number came in pretty good. Inflation, higher than you would like, but still not like it was during the Biden years. Some of the gas prices during Biden were outrageous and Democrats didn’t say anything. So you can have all of those messages and yet still you can have your messaging on the economy get swamped, because people aren’t thinking about what happened to their pocketbook four years ago, they are thinking about right now, in the next two years, maybe even the next four."
