Fmr. Homeland Security Secy. Jeh Johnson Says Americans Should Be ‘Really Angry’ About Political Incentives on Immigration

‘Too many politicians in Washington would rather have this issue to fight over than reach compromise’

EXCERPT:

JOHNSON: “The thing that I think Americans should be really angry about is the political incentives right now, the political incentives around this issue are all screwed up. About two years ago, it was just the beginning of the ‘24 campaign. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma, Democrat and Republican, reached a compromise on a good immigration reform bill. It was strong on border security, had a lot of stuff. It would have taken care of the DACA kids, who are a remarkable class of young people. But the political forces on both sides said no, we don’t want to compromise. We’D rather have this issue to fight about.”
