Lydia Hu: As Part of an Agreement with Trump, Japan Is Set to Invest $21B to Build Two New Chipmaking Facilities in Upstate New York
RUSH EXCERPT:
HU: "Story that company tells me now they will be moving much more conservatively without this foreign direct investment from Japan, 20 one billion dollars for these two new chip, fabs that global foundries is already here. We are at a chip, fab location here, where they are already producing essential chip stewart. These are the types of chips that we need for our cellphones and our cars, the very types of chips that we ran short of and 20 twenty one. So this foreign investment is intended to boost production of these essential chips. Sort the industry estimates that the? U s makes only about 10 percent of the world’s chips, and I spoke with the exactly chairman, Thomas caulfield. He estimates that adding two new fab plants here could lift the: u s capacity to as much as 20 five percent. Along with this expansion stewart, the government is taking an equity stake in global foundries. A four percent stake announced now, which brings the government’s toll little share to roughly seven percent. So I asked chairman caulfield in our conversation what this means for the taxpayer. It seems there’s the potential for upside, but I ask isn’t their risk here as well? Listen to what he says."
