Katty Kay on GOP Campaign Strategy: ‘Trans Issues Don’t Even Factor in the Top 10 of Voters’ Concerns’
EXCERPT:
KAY: “And Donald Trump can cozy up to Putin, but it’s certainly not something -- when I was up in Michigan, I didn’t even hear anyone talk about it. It was not an issue that they were interested in. I think what is clear is that Republicans in these last weeks of the campaign, because they have nothing else, Joe, are trying to make this a culture wars issue again, a culture wars election. It’s not. It’s an economic election. They’ve spent $100 million on ads around trans issues. Trans issues don’t even factor in the first top 10 of voters' concerns, so they’re throwing away money, they’re burning money on an issue that voters just say that they’re not interested in. And that is the problem for Republicans heading into the campaign. They’ve got — they have nothing to run on. Giving them the diesel deal, giving them cozying up to Vladimir Putin, giving them New America is New Mexico isn't gonna change what people are paying at the pump."
