A Saudi National Who Was an OpenAI Engineer Arrested, Accused of Planting Listening Device Inside Company’s Office
EXCERPT:
HUA: “This morning, the FBI is accusing a Saudi national who is working as an engineer at OpenAI of planting a sophisticated listening device at the company's San Francisco headquarters to spy on executives. The FBI says this is the device that was planted behind a television set in a conference room where highly confidential technical, commercial, and strategic information was discussed by top OpenAI officials. After company officials discovered the device in September, they located surveillance footage allegedly showing Abdulrahman Alfozan repeatedly going near that sensitive conference room. And they allegedly found he'd been using an AI tool to research the executives who'd be using that room and what they might be discussing. After this discovery of the device, officials secretly placed a camera behind the TV in the conference room to spy on Alfozan. This image is of Al-Fawzan looking behind the TV in the conference room on October 5th, apparently to check on his device. If convicted, he faces up to 5 years in prison.”
