Energy Sec. Wright: Diesel Export Ban Would Hurt Our Ability to Produce Gasoline in the U.S.

‘The problem with that is if we abruptly stopped our exporting of diesel, it would also hurt our ability to produce gasoline in the United States’

TRANSCRIPT:

WRIGHT: "There’s been a call for a diesel export ban, and I get it. We should have low prices in the United States. The problem with that is, if we abruptly stopped our exporting of diesel, it would also hurt our ability to produce gasoline in the United States and we might get diesel prices to get down, but we'd get gasoline prices to go up. So what we’re trying to do is thread that needle so we can get diesel prices down in gasoline prices down. And I think we’re — I think we’re about there. Diesel prices have started to go down. I think we’ll see gasoline prices go down in the very near term."
