COONS: “I do not want to pack the Supreme Court.”
KERNEN: “You want to change the Supreme Court.”
COONS: “But I’ll remind you, it was Senator McConnell who changed the rules wildly on how long is it going to take for us to have a full and reasoned consideration of a nominee to the Supreme Court, when it was Merrick Garland who was —“
KERNEN: “You’re talking about 9 justices and changing that. You’re not talking about —“ [crosstalk]
COONS: “If you’re not willing to review the record of what happened at the end of the first Trump term —“ [crosstalk]
KERNEN: “You don’t think Democrats would have done if they were in a position to not put a Republican on the — or a Republican —“
COONS: “No, I don’t think we would have done that.”
KERNEN: “Anyone’s in a position to do it would do it, Democrats would do it.”
COONS: “So if your argument is, politics has completely abandoned principle and it is purely about power, then heaven help us, because that means you’re willing to support or tolerate literally anything in the pursuit of power. I don’t agree with that. “
