HIMES: “And then to really hone in on the question that you asked, you know, it’s a little unseemly to organizations that have, you know, in some cases, hundreds of millions of dollars of business with the federal government, Pentagon, the intelligence community, the Department of Justice, to have the White House call them up and say, 'Hey, we got this nice little project here. Why don’t you — why don’t you kick in a little bit of the baksheesh?' You know, that’s just — that’s dirty, is what that is. Whether it’s illegal or not, we will find out. But but the letter is designed to say to these corporations, in some ways it’s designed to be helpful. Like, just think about the fact that what you’re doing will be subjected to the harsh light of day and the ultimate disinfectant of sunlight, and think hard about it. And by the way, we’re going to take a look and just see whether there were quid pro quos here that should not have been made."
