FOX 5 N.Y.: Despite Pledge of Free Buses, NYC About To Get 2nd Fare Hike in 2 Years

‘For riders who depend on transit every day, word of yet another increase comes as a shock, but many say they have no other choice’

EXCERPT:

WANG: “The riders point out when you take the bus or the train two times a day, five times a week, the cost can really add up. Base fares just went up to $3 this January and now the MTA is already talking about increasing it again next March.”
WANG (voice-over): “Here in New York, no matter which line you take or which route you ride, the price has been moving in only one direction up.”
UNKNOWN FEMALE: “I'm not happy about it at all. But what can we do?”
WANG: “For more than 8 years, the base fare held steady at $2.75. It increased to $2.90 in 2023, then to $3 this January. For riders who depend on transit every day, word of yet another increase comes as a shock.”
