Condoleezza Rice: AI Is ‘More than the Industrial Revolution’; ‘The United States Has to Keep the Lead’

RICE: “Well, it is definitely the next — more than the industrial revolution. I think it’s going to be more widespread and it can have greater effects. I see it actually as a very positive development. And you have to realize I’m kind of a techno optimist, really, and I believe in American innovation and American creativity. And I do want to stay ahead because I don’t want an authoritarian regime that will hide any problems that may come up with AI to be in control. So, let’s just stipulate, the United States has to keep the lead. I do think there are some things that we might want to be concerned about it. I don’t think you’re going to have the kind of job displacement that some people talk about. But tasks will change, jobs will change. Are we training the population for the jobs of the future, not the jobs of the present?”
