‘Stupid on Stilts’ GOP Senator Wants to Know Why a Russian Oligarch Bankrolled Don Jr.’s Wedding

TILLIS: "You know, I'm going to leave it to the chairmen of the committees to decide about the mechanics. But, folks, this was stupid on stilts. I mean, look, this is a man who's worth somewhere between $300 million and $400 million. You'd think somebody would have gotten a memo of a bad look to have a Russian oligarch who's actually traveled in a delegation to Beijing to fund a wedding, some sort of island wedding for a very wealthy family that also happens to be related to the president of the United States. Come on, guys, this is — this is amateur hour at a time when we need our pros on the field. We've got an election we need to win in 37 days. How this helped, I can't imagine. So, yeah, I think taking a look at it, maybe — maybe Don Jr. can give us a reasonable example for why tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars from an oligarch went into a wedding in some beach location, but, boy, I'd sure like to see the rationale behind it. On its face, it doesn't look very smart."
