Jake Sullivan: ‘We Need To See Real Structural Reform in China’ To Protect American Workers and Businesses

‘We need to see them make changes to how they pursue their economic policy that benefits our people here at home’

RUSH EXCERPT:

SULLIVAN: "I think there were basically two big categories of things left on the table. It’s a massive relationship. So we could talk about a lot of stuff, but really two in particular stand out. The first is that China continues to dump onto the world market, subsidized products that are undercutting workers and businesses everywhere, including here in the United States. We need to see real structural reform in China. We need to see them make changes to how they pursue their economic policy that benefits our people here at home, so that our workers aren’t getting screwed. We got None of that, no steps forward, just a kind of basic extension of this trade truce, which, frankly, has been an advantage to China since it began. The second thing that we wanted to see, which was previewed, was some move forward on AI risk that the us and China could agree on guardrails that would reduce the ways in which artificial intelligence could harm people in this country, in China and everywhere.”
