Marc Elias: ‘This Effort to Build a Voter Suppression Tool Will Be Available to States’ Ahead of the Midterms

ELIAS: "Yeah. Look, the justices made very clear they were rushing this case forward to have an impact in the 2026 midterm elections. And what it means is that the Trump, you know, database, this this effort to build a voter suppression tool will be available to states. A number of red states will grab it and run with it. Blue states will be resistant and likely be threatened by the Department of Justice with criminal investigations and harassment. And then there will be individual county election officials who in some cases will be caught between. So I don’t think Donald Trump did this because he is hoping that it will not lead to the disenfranchisement of a significant number of voters. Right. He didn’t do this for one season two. He did this because he hopes that it will make up for the fact that he’s historically unpopular, that his party has nothing to run on. And so I am worried, but I’m also resolved that we will we will use every tool available"
