Sen. Warnock Says He Doesn’t Understand Why People Work Hard to Become Elected to Congress, Just to Give that Power to the Executive Branch

WARNOCK: “Let me just tell you as somebody who ran for office statewide and has won twice in Georgia, and I got a feeling y’all getting ready to do something here in Texas. (applause) Y’all make that happen, all right? It’s hard to get elected to Congress. I mean, I literally had to give my life over to this thing. A campaign is one of those moments where you just, you got to give yourself over to it. It takes a lot. It’s hard work. And I don’t understand why you would do that much work to be in office, and then give all that power that the people gave to you to the executive Branch. Like, I worked too hard for that. I’m not going to give my power and this system of checks and balances, I’m not going to give that over to a Republican president or a Democratic president. And in this, in the Senate, it was the — we have advise and consent. I mean, you literally have nominees that are just woefully unfit by any measure. And it’s just been interesting to watch my colleagues confirm these people.”
