MS NOW’s Kimberly Atkins: No Legislative Branch, and SCOTUS that Rubber Stamps for Trump Is Not a Democracy

ATKINS: “I mean, one thing that Senator Tillis — who let’s remind everyone is leaving, he is not running for re-election, so he has that — but he pointed out that it is actually Congress’s job not just to say, not just to say yes or no to war powers to the president, it’s Congress’s job to have the war power, that means that the president’s supposed to come with them with a reason for launching this war, which he hasn’t done, a strategy for how this war proceeds, which he hasn’t done, an endgame, what a solution looks like, which he hasn’t done. So that is why Congress should not be giving him this type of power just as a blank check, but Congress is now again abdicated its role. What — what concerns me about this is we’re supposed to have a three system, a tricameral government, three branches of government that operate as checks and balances against one another. But without the legislative one, all you have is the president’s executive Branch and the judiciary, which is headed by a Supreme Court who seems more often than not, far more often than not, just to rubber stamp what the president is doing. That’s not a democracy, that is something else.”
