ABC Philly: NJ Gov. Sherrill Calls on Lt. Gov. Caldwell to Resign After Releasing Sexual Harassment Investigation Findings

JACKSON (voice-over): "Eight months after being sworn in, there are now multiple calls for New Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor Dale Cldwell to resign, including right from the top. Governor Mikie Sherrill launched an independent investigation into her lieutenant governor that she says substantiated accusations of sexual harassment she calls extremely troubling. According to the 60+ page report, Caldwell made a romantic advancement towards a female staffer's friend and a sexual comment to the staffer after he was rejected. The report says Caldwell denied the comments, but investigators did not find his denial credible. Investigators also say, on multiple occasions, he attempted to secure a promotion for his girlfriend. In a statement, the governor says Caldwell's ethical lapses persisted despite multiple warnings and trainings, saying these violations substantiated in the investigation reflect a pattern of behavior that does not meet the standards of this administration. An attorney for Caldwell released a statement disputing the findings, calling them one-sided. The statement reading in part: 'The Lieutenant Governor was not provided a meaningful opportunity to address each of these anonymous allegations or offer readily identifiable witnesses who possess more pertinent first-hand knowledge of the events in question. Republican leaders began calling for Caldwell's resignation when this investigation became public weeks ago. Senate Republican leader Anthony M. Bucco released a statement Thursday night saying, 'This situation has gone on for far too long, and if he doesn’t agree to resign, the legislature should follow the necessary protocols to resolve this matter once and for all.'"
