Richard Haass: I Was Relieved That Trump’s Meeting with Xi Was ‘Show Over Substance’

HAASS: "What I can tell, it was much more, if you will, show over substance. It’s not so bad. Quite honestly, I was actually relieved. I don’t want there to be a lot of substance, because I’m worried that this president would be more than prepared, for example, to trade Taiwan for something on economics or something like that. It showed Trump’s view that diplomacy is personal, I mean, which Xi’s a little bit uncomfortable with, but  played along with.”
