PINSKY: "Kratom has been around for a long time. It is a weak opiate. We do not sell opiates at the drugstore over the counter. It is the same addictive potential as Vicodin or any other opiate. You just have to take a little more of it. I’m shocked that they are contemplating sort of allowing 7-hydroxy, which is the opioid agent, and people who are trying to get around regulation of kratom are putting together concentrated versions of 7-hydroxy, which is worse than kratom. I’ve been dealing with kratom addiction for years. It’s shocking that it’s taken this long to get to the public awareness."
