Rep. Carlos Gimenez: Immigration Policy Has ‘Cost Us a Lot’ Among Hispanic Voters

GIMENEZ: “The president has people tugging at him from different directions every single day. And so, you know, he has a number of advisers in the White House, and he has a number of advisers outside the White House that tell them or advise him or, you know, give him suggestions of what he wants to do. At the end, it’s the president of the United States that makes that determination. And so, are there people in the White House that maybe don’t want to do what we would like to see? Yeah, I’m sure there are. I don’t know who they are, but I’m sure they’re in there somewhere. And there are other folks like us, OK, that say, hey, maybe you should be doing it this way. At the end, it’s the president who determines the policy. And so, we’ve been trying to steer the president into a little bit more nuanced policy for quite a long time because, A, we think it’s the right policy, and, B, it really has cost us a lot with the Hispanic voters. It took us a long time to get. And so, you know, we find ourselves where we are today.”
