McKINNON: "Well, because people are feeling the pain themselves. And it’s one thing if things are going on and I’m doing okay, but this is why, you know, Bill Clinton was probably the best retail campaigner in our lifetimes, because he really understood that you can’t spin your way out of economic pain. And so his message to voters was not what Trump is saying. What Trump is saying, there is no pain, that things are fine. Bill Clinton was very good at saying, 'I feel your pain, I feel it,' and recognizing and saying, 'Listen, I know you’re going through stuff and I’m going to do something about it.' Trump — Trump just ignores the pain and suggests that nobody’s feeling it. And to your point about the ballroom and all these other things, they’re just perfect metaphors for voters. It’s so easy to say, 'Well, wait a minute, why is he concerned about a ballroom when I’m really feeling things here in my own community? He obviously doesn’t care about what I care about or care about me. He cares about himself.' What he’s doing is building monuments to himself, because he knows that after he leaves, nobody else will do it for him."
