Barbara McQuade: ‘At Least in the Interim, Things Can’t Go Awry’ After Judge Talwani Blocks Trump Mail Voting Restrictions
RUSH EXCERPT:
MCQUADE: "I think not a surprise, but good news for people who care about election integrity. What she had ordered earlier, what’s what’s called a temporary restraining order. That is we’re going to freeze everything right now. Based on what I’m hearing from the plaintiffs, it sounds like they are likely to prevail, but it’s temporary by nature. It gives both sides a more fulsome opportunity to brief the issue and for the court to consider it. And so yesterday, she had that hearing to hear more about what’s been happening in the past several days. And she remained unconvinced, as you just described there, that the postal service is prepared to go through with this. So what she entered today was a more permanent order. It’s not the end of the litigation. The case will continue, but this order is now indefinite until something else happens in the case. I think this can give us some assurance that, at least in the interim, things can’t go awry.”
