Lila Rose: ‘Mental Illness Is Real,’ But Lindsey Clancy’s Case Should Be Viewed as a ‘Serious Act’

ROSE: “I am not surprised. Most of the jury were women, I believe it was seven or eight of them were female jurors. And I think this touches deeply with a lot of women. They are affected by this because we all know someone who has had postpartum depression, someone who has had psychosis and we are all trying to make sense of such a heinous act. How could she have done it when everything seemed normal before? So I think it’s almost a narrative that helps us feel better, in a sense. That she never would have done such an evil thing, it must have been psychosis. The challenge with that though is the fact that she only heard the voices one time. Not before or after, she was never diagnosed with psychosis or postpartum depression. And what I’m really concerned about right now, is the narrative that has now taken hold, were in a way, if you just snap as a mother, you take the life of your child, you just struggled, you were insane, we need to help you out here. There was a copycat just this week.”
