GLAUDE: "That’s a very important point, Chris, because I think we we lose sight of the fact that there’s been this kind of illiberal underbelly to the history of the country. And, you know, we’ve talked about, you know, the the coup in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 1898. But we need to understand the importance, the significance of, say, the Mississippi plan and how the Mississippi plan, which involved, you know, not only disenfranchising black folk, but in so many ways, a kind of violent overthrow of the state government, running the governor basically out of the state, and how that was then duplicated across the South. So that illiberal dimension of American history is actually evidenced right now. This is homegrown. This isn’t Donald coming out of Donald Trump’s head like like Athena out of Zeus’s head.
