Jeff Mason on Iran Timeline: There Is a Reason People Are Asking as ‘Promises Were Made’

MASON: "They’re going the other direction, and they’re going the other direction at the wrong time. You can see the president and the vice president trying to shift a little bit into campaign mode heading into the midterm elections. We understand the president is going to do a lot more travel. The vice president is out auditioning a little bit in that briefing room yesterday. But as you say, Jon, they don’t have a strong answer on Iran. And Kaitlan asked him about a timeline, I mean, the president sort of laid out a timeline at the very beginning of the conflict and said 4 to 6 weeks, and now we’re more than half a year in. So there’s a reason that people are asking. Promises were made at the beginning of this conflict by the administration, or at least forecasts were made. And the president used to say, 'I’m ready for a deal,' or 'We’re going to get this wrapped up quickly,' or 'I think the Iranians are going to make a deal.' All of that is proven not to be true. That has had an impact on the markets. It's had an impact on energy prices, and it's going to have an impact at the voting booth."
