Fmr. Obama Speechwriter: ‘Corporations Are Mostly Autocracies.’ Real Democracy Is Electing 80-Year-Olds to Congress
‘I would rather see more democracy’
EXCERPT:
UNKNOWN FEMALE: “How many lawyers are in the Senate? If you are 80 in a law firm, you have been sunsetted years ago.”
RUHLE: “Correct. Correct. If you sit on a corporate board, they say there's an age limit. Thanks for playing. Time to play golf.”
LITT: “But corporations are mostly autocracies, right? They're definitely not democracies. And I do think that we have limits and the limits are imposed by voters. I like that. I think we've seen it in this election, right? For the most part, being older is a real challenge if you're running. And at the same time, some candidates, if you're good enough, if you get lucky enough, can break through and do it. I think I would rather see more democracy than less.”
