Allysia Finley: Golf Courses in the U.S. Use About 30 Times ‘More Water’ Than Data Centers Right Now

FINLEY: "You know, I think this is being driven by a lot of misinformation but in fact golf courses in the U.S. use about 30 times more water than data centers right now. A data center it uses uses about much water as a car Wash for example. Now on the issue of electricity rates, electricity rates have been rising in part because of the inflation or the inflation dynamics but since 2016, electric rates have risen at the same rate as inflation you really see increases in the electric grades are northeast and California part largely because of climate policies including restrictions on natural gas and allows people solar panels to free write on the grid. There is some concern the demand for electricity from these data centers could lead to future increases if there is not enough power supply for a lot of these companies are offering to quote unquote bring their own power which is essentially build their own power plants in which case they will not increase the strain or increase electric rates."
