Michael Feinberg: ‘The Idea That You Could Commit the Very Crimes the FBI Investigates’ and Still Become an Agent Is ‘Ghastly’

FEINBERG: "What I make of this is that they are having a very difficult time getting recruits, getting the right sort of people to apply. As you noted, they’ve lost almost 10% of the agent workforce. If those numbers from justice connection are correct. And they need to backfill them. But if you’re having trouble recruiting people, there are really only two things you can do to fix that. You can make it a more attractive place to work, but the vindictive and almost random firings that patel embarks upon almost every month make that difficult. And the other option is you can lower standards so it’s easier for people to get in. I’ve talked to a lot of people still in the organization. I’ve talked to a lot of my fellow alumni, and we’re all, frankly embarrassed. The idea that you could commit the very crimes the FBI investigates without it being a hindrance to you becoming a special agent is ghastly. It’s horrible. I mean, the FBI investigates human trafficking.”
