Jonathan Hunt: Trump Says Iran Is Begging for a Deal as Economic Pressure Mounts, with Long Gas Lines and Soaring Inflation Hitting the Country
EXCERPT:
HUNT: “President Trump posted to his Truth Social account last night, saying that Iran is ‘begging’ for a deal and is a ‘failing nation’. Iranian officials, predictably perhaps, pushed back against that this morning. The country’s foreign minister writing on X: ‘Putting diplomacy back on to track isn’t impossible. It hinges on U.S. understanding of one simple fact: pressure doesn’t work. The U.S. should build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and uphold commitments.’ But the pressure is certainly building economically. We are seeing long gas lines at gas stations in Iran, and we know that inflation is rampant. Part of building that pressure, of course, is the U.S. naval blockade that you heard Admiral Brad Cooper talking about. In that same video message, Admiral Cooper also talked about the mine-clearing operation that is being undertaken in the Strait of Hormuz. Here’s the admiral.”
