HOTEZ: “As a country, we're going in the wrong direction. We've had now two deaths in Pennsylvania. Remember, we had two deaths in my state of Texas last year. And since that big, huge epidemic in West Texas that went up into the panhandle in Kansas and New Mexico and multiple states in the southern Great Plains, what followed was additional massive epidemics in Arizona and Utah, and then we're still on the heels of the South Carolina epidemic, and now this one. So we're likely losing our measles elimination status, and measles is returning as a new normal to the United States, and it's a completely self-inflicted wound. There's no reason this should happen.”
