Elie Honig: Supreme Court Allowing Trump to Curb Mail Ballots Is a ‘Temporary One’ But Could Well Be in Effect in 2028
RUSH EXCERPT:
HONIG: “So with respect to the 2026 midterms, in A word chaos. That‘s what Justice Jackson says in her dissent. Think about all the things that have to happen in the next 71 days between now and the midterms. DHS has to put together these lists. There‘s no indication they‘ve even started doing that. That‘s A massive task. The postal service has to put out A rule on how they‘re going to carry this out. Again, they‘ve only just started doing that. The states have to figure out how they‘re going to comply with all this. And in the meantime, there‘s going to be ongoing litigation. So I think there‘s real questions, as Caitlin was just saying, about whether this can realistically get implemented in time for midterms. But importantly, no matter what happens in 2026, this could well be in effect for 2028. So, it‘s not clear how it‘s going to affect the midterms. But if it goes into effect, then the next presidential election is in play as well.”
