VP Vance During Phone Interview on Iran: We’re Kind of in a New Phase Where the Most Effective Tool We Have Is ‘Economic Pressure’

VANCE: "I think that we’re in a new phase of this And what the president signaled with his truth of a couple of days ago is that you know, we have destroyed their conventional military we have put an incredible amount of pressure on their industrial base they use to manufacture weapons We’re kind of now in a new phase where the most effective tool that we have is the economic pressure that we can apply to them And, and and this is a delicate dance because we apply economic pressure to them they’re gonna try to apply economic pressure to us But what has been true over the last couple of weeks is they felt a lot more pressure than we have We’re going to keep that going because we think that’s the best way to you know, ultimately accomplish the final objective here right? We have to go back to the very beginning. The president said Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon Well, their nuclear facilities are destroyed but the question is do they try to rebuild them? And so fundamentally what we’re trying to do is create a changed reality on the ground where not just we can stay with confidence their facilities have been destroyed but we can also stay with confidence they’re never going to try to rebuild and that’s the phase that we’re in now"
