Virginia State Senator Argues Against Data Centers, Lament They’re Paying Construction Workers Too Much Money
EXCERPT:
LUCAS: “Mr. Chairman, I don't know who to direct this question to, but I was just wondering, you know, are there any concerns to employment in other construction fields, especially if we're trying to build residential housing? And that's because the data centers seem to be swallowing up all of the labor force by paying $100,000 to $250,000 a year to get these data centers built. And so, where are the employees to help with our residential construction sites and things like that? Because, I mean, I know once these data centers move on, they go to other places, build other data centers, but where is the labor force for us for residential housing? I mean, that's a concern I have, and I don't know to whom I could direct that question.”
