A coalition of 29 states, led by California, say the company behind Facebook and Instagram deliberately designed its products to keep children hooked, while misleading parents and the public about the risks. The states accuse Meta of using addictive features like infinite scrolling, personalized recommendations, and constant notifications to keep young users coming back, even as the company knew about the potential for serious harm, including anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. Outside court today, a group of advocates and parents unveiled a banner with the names of nearly 400 children they say died from social media-related harm.”
