The Bulwark’s Sam Stein on Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race: Tom Tiffany Is Election Denier
EXCERPT:
STEIN: "Well, first off, we all have problematic tweets, with the exception of Claire, she’s only been perfect on Twitter. So let’s put that to the side. On the issue of Tom Tiffany and election denialism, you know, we just wrote about this, my colleague Lauren Egan did on The Bulwark this Sunday, and it’s interesting how little attention actually this is getting. Tom Tiffany is a election denier. He has echoed President Trump’s arguments that there was fraud, against all evidence, in the election, that Wisconsin erroneously was awarded to Joe Biden in 2020. And look, we haven’t lived with an experience where the governor of one of those critical swing states, there’s five or six of them, is someone who does not believe in election integrity. And that is a possibility if Tom Tiffany does win. Obviously, the real implications of that are down the road in 2028, but it is something that has to be considered as people go to the ballot box. Does that affect how primary voters vote? I doubt it. I think, for example, a lot of Francesca Hong supporters will make the argument that even though she has these incendiary or outlandish tweets — who doesn’t love Thanksgiving, for instance — that she actually is best situated to win a general election, in their estimation, because she can cross coalitions, because she can reach disaffected voters, because she may have more inroads with working class voters that Dave Crowley might not.”
